MIS 110 Professional Certification in Business Practice Credits: 0

This course is designed to help students enhance their professional competencies and career readiness through completion of a recognized industry certification. Students will select and complete a certification aligned with their academic emphasis area or career goals (e.g., business analytics, project management, digital marketing, financial modeling, or supply chain management). The course emphasizes self-directed learning, practical application of business concepts, and preparation for real-world career demands. Upon successful completion of the certification, students will receive recognition of their achievement, boosting their resume and employability in the competitive business landscape.

MIS 202 Technology Tools for Productivity and Decision-Making Credits: 3

The application of technology tools—including spreadsheets and generative AI—to increase personal productivity and inform business decisions.

Prerequisites: MATH 110 or MATH 120 or STAT 235 or higher; or MyMathTest College Algebra score of 70% or higher; or ACT MATH sub-score of 28 or higher; or SAT MATH sub-score of 660 or higher.

MIS 402 Technology, Data, and AI in Business Credits: 3

This course provides an introduction to the role of information technology and systems in modern organizations. Students explore how digital technologies including data systems, cloud computing, cybersecurity, business analytics, and artificial intelligence support business operations, enable decision-making, and drive innovation. The course emphasizes key concepts, emerging trends, and responsible use of technology from a managerial and strategic perspective.

Prerequisites: MIS 202 or ACCTNG 306; and junior standing.

MIS 459 Data Management for Business Analytics Credits: 3

The course covers the process of exploring, structuring, and cleaning data for analysis, a critical, under-appreciated part of the analytics process. Students will learn foundational data and analytics concepts with a particular focus on data management through examples and application. They will also learn how to use some of the leading analytic and AI-augmented tools to perform data wrangling and analytic tasks and increase their understanding of the ways those tasks are performed in today’s data-driven business environment.

Prerequisites: DSOM 211 or STAT 235 or STAT 115 or MOTRMATH 110.

MIS 487 Special Topics Credits: 3

Special topics in management information systems.

Prerequisites: Departmental consent.

MIS 496 Internship: Management Information Systems Credits: 1-3

An opportunity for students to integrate their academic studies via employment with a business/organization in the community. Internship coursework is evaluated on a credit/no credit basis.

Prerequisites: Departmental consent.

MIS 497 Special Topics: Management Information Systems Credits: 1-3

Study and research in areas of special interest under individual faculty direction.
