Architecture Interest

UMKC offers a Pre-Architecture/Architecture Interest pathway for students who intend to pursue, or are exploring entry into, the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) program. This pathway is designed for students who apply to UMKC after the B.Arch application deadline, current UMKC students seeking admission to the B.Arch program, or students who were not initially admitted and wish to strengthen their academic record for future consideration.

The B.Arch program only admits students to begin in the Fall semester, and the program is five years (10 semesters) from the start of the first design studio course, ARCH 201.

Students who are interested in the Architecture Interest pathway are encouraged to declare their major as Exploratory with a Pre-Architecture subplan. The Pre-Architecture subplan cannot be selected at the time of application to the University. Students must consult with an academic advisor in University College or the Numbers, Engineering, Technology and the Cosmos (NETC) MAP in Roo Advising (rooadvising@umkc.edu) to add the subplan to their academic record.

Students not directly admitted into the B.Arch program may opt for Pre-Architecture status and will be evaluated annually in May for admissions into the Fall cohort. Students not admitted will be required to select an alternative major through the Declaration of Major (DOM) process and will not be eligible to continue unless a DOM is processed.

Admission to the B.Arch program is competitive and students must have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA to be considered.

Students enrolled in the Pre-Architecture/Architecture Interest pathway may complete non-studio coursework during their first year. This coursework allows students to explore the discipline, meet program faculty, and assess their interest and readiness for the B.Arch program.
